4 Ways to Promote Wellness in the Workplace

Investing in the health of employees is one of the best decisions a company can make. Research shows that for every $1 invested in worksite wellness, companies can receive up to $3 in return.  Implementing Workplace Wellness programs isn’t just an important part of employee health and productivity — but also for an organization’s ability to be successful.

Here are 5 ways to promote wellness in your workplace!

1. Stress Management

According to the American Psychological Association, 36 percent of workers experience stress in the workplace on a regular basis. Stress can often exacerbate both physical and mental chronic conditions. Providing, fun, stress-relieving activities — such as chair massages — at the office is one way that employers are working to combat this issue.

3. Healthy Snacks in the Office Kitchen

What makes a healthy snack? One that’s high in nutritional value (proteinvitamins, minerals, fiber) but relatively low in calories, total fat, saturated fat (no trans fat), sugar, and sodium. And the most important part of that equation is “high in nutritional value.” So as delicious as those Girl Scout Cookies look, they aren’t so good for you — so try to keep them out of the kitchen. Instead, why not fill the office kitchen with lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains? Investing in a community juicer is a great way to encourage healthy snacking as well.



4. Water, Water, and more Water!

Encourage hydration during the workday by providing clean filtered water — enough to consume 8 oz. of water for each working hour. It sounds like a lot of intake, but think of all the health benefits you’ll be rewarded! Calorie control, glowing skin, and a happy digestive system – just to name a few.

Coffee can lead to  jitters, crashes, and dehydration which not only make us feel bad — it’s not helpful to us when we’re trying to be productive. Sodas and energy drinks that loaded with sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Consumption of these drinks can lead to diabetes and a plethora of other rather unpleasant side effects.

Or even better, keep a BPA-Free water bottle at your desk and refill every hour at the company filtered water cooler!

Wellness in the Workplace : 3 Ways To Find Your “Ohm”

No matter how relaxed you felt after yoga class last night, its benefits may have worn off by the time you walked into work this morning.

It’s important that we take time for ourselves during the day to decompress, relax, and hit the reset button. Not only is it good for your health and well being, you’ll actually become more productive!

Incorporating a 10-15 minute walk into you workday may be just what you need! Why not take a stroll through a nearby public park? The fresh air, green grass, fountains, and calming energy is a perfect way to recharge your batteries and prepare you for the rest of your workday.

2. Kick Back at a Nearby Hotel Lobby

Hotel lobbies are a great place to kick back and take a breather. They are usually full of comfy couches and chairs, and lots of folks who are on vacation. So take a deep breath, let go of your worries, and sink into a big comfy arm chair! Make that hotel lobby into your own mini-staycation right in the middle of your workday.
