Over the past several days, members of the 24 Seven Talent team attended Internet Week New York.  We sat in on many panels and fireside chats led by professionals from a broad spectrum of industries.  Technology, mobile, advertising, government, television, film, recruiting — you name it.  From big data, social media, women in tech, wellness in the workplace, and digital surveillance — there were a myriad of discussions about how far we have come, where we are today, and what our future may look like.

We were lucky enough to absorb an abundance of information at Internet Week New York 2015. So we wanted to share some of the wisdom with our 24 Seven Talent Thread readers.

Here is a list of our favorite moments from Internet Week New York 2015 :

To Lean or Not to Lean?

Empowering Women to Challenge the Gender Gap

Today, a mere 27 percent of technology jobs are held by women. While there’s talk around the issue, action must be taken now. Our community needs to ask not why, but how can we make this change. This was a lively panel discussion at Internet Week, focused on how we can challenge the norm, influence change, and shape future opportunities for women in the tech industry. (Via IWNY)

Sleep Cycle

Mornings can be a drag. Sometimes no matter how much sleep we get, waking up can feel just plain terrible! We’ve tried Sleep Cycle and we love the results! And you don’t have to take our word for it, it’s been featured in CNN, Wired, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, BBC, The New York Times and many more.  Place your smartphone under your pillow and the app actually monitors your movement during sleep using the extremely sensitive accelerometer in your phone.  Sleep Cycle then finds the optimal time to wake you up during a 30 minute window that ends at your set alarm time. Amazing! Waking up the natural way to wake up feeling rested and relaxed. Two thumbs up!

Collaboration or Roadblock?

This week we asked: [#QOW]

Is email a collaboration tool or a collaboration roadblock?

roadblock

Over 77% of you said that email was a great collaboration tool rather than a roadblock. Email allows us to communicate more quickly to our team either remotely or while in the office. It’s a great way to bounce ideas off one another.

Since the adoption of Mobile/Smartphones, we have our email in our pocket! Most of us are more connected than ever before – whether we want to be…or not.

Are you happy to be plugged in?

Top 5 Takeaways from WWD Digital Forum

WWDDIGITAL_Forum

We recently attended the first-ever WWD Digital Forum: Los Angeles, held at the cutting-edge Hammer Museum. The event featured some of the most influential minds currently shaping the ever evolving digital landscape of fashion & retail. Buzz-worthy topics, such as mobile commerce, the importance of big data and how to engage consumers through new digital media, fueled the forum, which proved to be as much a blast as it was informative.

Here are our top 5 takeaways from the event.

1. Mad about mobile. Mobile technology has fundamentally changed the expectations of the next generation of shoppers.

2. Content – both slick and not-so-polished – drives consumer brand engagement.  Brands need storytellers to create all types of content across traditional, new, and emerging channels.

3. Big Data means big opportunity – in our data-generating world, shoppers leave an ever-growing trail of digital clues to better understand and capture them as consumers. Think strategic marketing!

4. Social engagement will increasingly drive commerce – capturing the dollars of the connected consumer is ever more dependent on identifying the right social media channel for your brand. Now is the time to find a career as a social expert, community manager, and new media maven.

5. Brick and click – consumers want it all.  As e-commerce continues to outpace traditional retail, consumers are dictating how and where they shop. Smart companies must commit to creating a seamless brand experience across all consumer touchpoints.  E-commerce specialists, web developers, mobile designers, UX/UI experts, online merchandisers are in demand, as retailers look to enhance the consumer journey, whether online or the on the sales floor.

So, tell us, reader: Are you already implementing programs in line with these trends? If not, do they inspire you to do so? We’d love to hear your experience!
